Therapy Assistance and Guidance

The Ministry to People with Disabilities provides hands-on care and love to Malawi’s most vulnerable people. You can be a part of making that happen. Provide speech language, physical, and/or occupational therapy assistance and guidance to the men and women who daily serve the needs of those with disabilities through this ministry. Your expertise and aid will help them provide the best care possible to those who need it most.

Work alongside local professionals and Kingdom Workers staff to explain therapies for children with disabilities to caretakers and volunteers.

 

Overview

Location: Blantyre, Malawi and surrounding areas

Dates: Aug. 19-30, 2020 (includes travel)

Volunteers needed: 2

Your time in Malawi

Anticipated activities
Develop relationships with Kingdom Workers staff and local professionals
Observe training provided by local professionals to caregivers
Observe assessments of children with developmental and physical disabilities
Provide feedback to local professionals and Kingdom Workers staff on suggested therapies

Skills/characteristics
Experience working with children 1-15 years old in speech language pathology, physical and/or occupational therapy
Willingness and desire to learn from local professionals about therapies in Malawi
International travel experience preferred

Volunteer fee

$2,485 – includes airfare, in-country transportation, food, lodging, and visa. 

 

Additional details

Housing
Volunteers will stay at a guest house and will cook most meals there with the option of eating at local restaurants.

Passport
You will need a valid passport to travel to and from Malawi. It must not expire within six months of your trip.  

Immunizations
All routine vaccinations should be up to date. Check the CDC website for information on recommended vaccines.

Preparation
We facilitate orientation to help you prepare for your time volunteering.
