Camp Croix Volunteer Opportunity

Camp Croix has been a place of retreat and fellowship for youth, adult, church groups, and families since 1951. Nestled on 160 acres along Rooney Lake in northwestern Wisconsin, the camp offers 2,100 feet of lakeshore, perfect for swimming, boating, and water activities.

Builders For Christ will return to Camp Croix this spring to complete the building we framed in last summer/fall. Work is starting Monday, March 23rd, and running through Saturday, June 13th.

Information

Number of volunteers needed: 40 total (8-12 per week March/April & 15+ May/June)

Project Manager: Peter Behrens

We are heading back to Camp Croix this spring to complete the building we framed in last summer/fall. Work is starting Monday March 23rd and running through Saturday June 13th. We will be working a Monday–Friday schedule for this project. The work is mostly interior; the building has temporary heat so we can work comfortably. We will be concentrating our efforts on making the fellowship hall and one set of family bathrooms available so the building can obtain a partial occupancy permit for this camping season, ideally getting the entire facility ready for use for the 2026 season.

Housing

For volunteers, there are several lodging options available during your service:

  • In March and April, lodging will be available in the camp lodge and nurse’s station building.

  • There are 6 rooms in the lodge and 3 bedrooms in the nurse’s station.

  • BFC has 3 campers on site, which should become available late in April, pending weather. Camper rental costs $100 per week.

  • The campers and camp sites will be available in May and June.

Food

A noon meal, snacks, and water will be provided each day. Volunteers are responsible for their own meals in the morning, evening, and on non-working days. Anyone not involved with the day-to-day building process is encouraged to assist the congregation with the meals and break snacks as needed.

FAQ

Do I need to have previous experience to apply?

Each phase of the project requires different skills and numbers of volunteers, so if you’ve never lifted a hammer, you can still volunteer! Our experienced volunteers happily provide on-the-job training to those who need it.

What should I bring?

While bringing your own tools and safety equipment is encouraged, it is not a requirement. We understand not everyone can access the necessary tools or safety equipment. If you have your own items, feel free to bring them. This would include safety glasses, a hard hat, appropriate shoes, hammer, tool belt, 1″x25′ tape measure, speed square, utility knife with blades, bird’s foot/cat’s paw, pencil(s), and chalk line. If you’re traveling by plane and find it difficult to pack these items or don’t have them, we have them covered.

Are there age restrictions?

Anyone 16 years of age or older may serve on a Builders For Christ project. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have an adult chaperone who will volunteer as their supervisor. Only volunteers age 18 and older are permitted to operate motor vehicles and power tools, climb ladders and scaffolding, work on a roof, or engage in any other hazardous activities.
