Read the Volunteer Procedures & Safety Manual
Volunteers should be aware that people will be coming and going from the construction site (i.e. local church members who volunteer, sub-contractors, short-term volunteers). Builders For Christ will be implementing safety procedures for all people who visit the construction site. Volunteers are also encouraged to follow CDC COVID-19 guidelines as well as local and state regulations.
Do I need to have previous experience to apply?
Each phase of the project requires different skills and numbers of volunteers, so if you’ve never lifted a hammer, you can still volunteer! Our experienced volunteers happily provide on-the-job training to those who need it.
What should I bring?
Volunteers should bring a hard hat and safety glasses, preferably with side shields. Please wear clothing that protects you from sharp and blunt objects. Shoes must have thick soles, thick sides, and toe material—tennis shoes will not be allowed. Volunteers use their own personal tools, such as a hammer, nail belt, 1”x25’ tape measure, speed square, utility knife with blades, pry bar, and chalk line. All other tools are provided by Builders For Christ.
Are there age restrictions?
Anyone 16 years of age or older may serve on a Builders For Christ project. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have an adult chaperone who will volunteer as their supervisor. Only volunteers age 18 and older are permitted to operate motor vehicles and power tools, climb ladders and scaffolding, work on a roof, or engage in any other hazardous activities.
Builders For Christ volunteers are the people who selflessly give up their time and construction skills to help congregations, schools, and organizations with their building projects.
