Whiteriver Community Garden

The gardening program in Whiteriver, Arizona uses Jesus’ parables to inspire and educate children and families about gardening and the gospel. Health concerns on the reservations are addressed by combining basic gardening skill lessons with games, meals, and bible studies in a peaceful, productive environment. Together with Kingdom Workers volunteers, they pray for rain, blessings on the harvest, and peace for families. The benefits of this program extend beyond just feeding and nourishing the body to feeding and nourishing the soul.

Connecting the next generation to better health.

On the Whiteriver Apache Reservation few people have access to the fruits and vegetables needed to improve overall health and wellbeing. Our Whiteriver Community Garden connects community members and young people to gardening skills they can use to grow healthy food. Combining gardening skills with lessons from the bible gives people an opportunity to nourish their bodies and souls.

Benefits of garden-based learning

Garden-based learning brings a whole host of holistic benefits to each program participant. Working together as a team shows children the value of cooperation, teamwork, and hard work which benefits their emotional health. As children learn how to grow their own healthy food they discover the benefits of eating well and nutritional health is improved. And gospel-based lessons share the love of Jesus with participants, which nurtures their spiritual health.

Volunteer your skills at the Whiteriver Community Garden

Do you have a green thumb? Looking for a way to share your unique gardening skills with people in your community? We are looking for volunteers from the Whiteriver community to contribute their time and skills at the Whiteriver Community Garden.

"We use the parables of Jesus to teach how to grow, and it's great because the parables inform the gardening, and the gardening informs the parables."
