Rehabilitation Technical Advisor

Reports To: Disability Ministry Coordinator

Status: Part-Time, International

The Rehabilitation Technical Advisor will work closely with the Disability Ministry Coordinator. This position will provide technical support for physical rehabilitation to children in the home-based care portion of the Disability Ministry. The responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the reporting and implementation of Kingdom Workers Malawi ministries.


Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Work with Disability Ministry Coordinator to organize 2-4 trainings per year for Disability Ministry volunteers
  • Develop a schedule for performing assessments on children in home-based care
  • Maintain updated program files on home-based care children
  • Ensure data collection on the progress of children in home-based care is timely and consistent
  • Work alongside visiting Physical Therapist/Occupational Therapist/Speech expert volunteers and assess how their expertise should be utilized for training volunteers, caretakers, and Kingdom Workers staff
  • Maintain ongoing relationship with visiting expert volunteers and develop long term plan for their continued engagement
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key Disability Ministry volunteers
  • Provide technical support in the area of physical rehabilitation within the Disability Ministry program throughout Malawi, under the direction of the Disability Ministry Coordinator
  • Occasional travel required to Central and Northern regions of Malawi to support home-based care teams there

Education, experience, and characteristics:

  • A true passion for reaching the lost, a commitment facilitating excellence in program and process delivery, good stewardship, and creating a work environment that fosters open and honest communication
  • University level diploma as a rehabilitation technician or physical therapist with up to date board certification
  • Experience working with children, low income families, and making home visits
  • Ability to teach caretakers and others basics of rehabilitation and simple physical therapy techniques that can be used at home
  • Ability to effectively teach in front of groups of people from a wide range of education backgrounds
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively
  • Fluent in both Chichewa and English
  • Proven experience in group facilitation is desirable
  • Strong organizational skills and experience managing patient case fields is desirable
  • Skilled at relationship management and willingness to collaborate with co-workers in a cross-cultural setting
  • Reside in or willing to relocate to Blantyre, Malawi
  • Valid Driver’s License is preferred


Physical Demand/Work Environment:

  • Ability to travel by road, air, or other means as may be needed to conduct work in a developing country
  • Ability to happily spend time and work in conditions/areas of the world that may be deemed primitive
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
  • Frequently required to walk, sit and stand
  • Continually required to talk and hear
  • Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions
  • Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions
  • Occasional exposure to blood borne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials
