Protecting Children’s Health Through Hygiene: Success Story
Mgunda Village in the Thyolo District had long been battling recurring cases of diarrhoea and bilharzia—illnesses that hit young children the hardest. As cases grew more frequent, village leaders and teachers at Lomola Primary School realized the root cause: limited knowledge and poor practices around Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).
Determined to protect their children, the community reached out to Kingdom Workers’ WASH volunteers from Matamando Lutheran Church of Central Africa. The volunteers responded immediately, organizing a comprehensive hygiene education session for the pupils at Lomola Primary School.

Healthier Days Ahead for Mgunda Village
Kingdom Workers’ WASH volunteers demonstrated proper handwashing techniques using posters and visual aids, helping students understand safe water handling, sanitation, and disease prevention. The interactive, hands-on approach allowed children to connect the lessons to their everyday routines.
The impact was swift and significant.
Since the training, the community has reported a notable decrease in diarrhoea and bilharzia cases among children. Parents and teachers have also seen meaningful behavior changes—students are now practicing what they learned with consistency and confidence.
Through the combined efforts of village leaders, school staff, and Kingdom Workers’ WASH volunteers, Mgunda Village is experiencing healthier days. Children now carry with them essential knowledge to safeguard their well-being and that of their families—proof that simple, accessible hygiene education can transform a community.

More On KW's Clean Water & Sanitation Initiatives
Kingdom Workers is committed to addressing basic health needs while sharing the healing power of the gospel. Around the world, more than 785 million people lack access to clean water—leaving families vulnerable to waterborne diseases, forcing children to miss school, and limiting a community’s ability to grow food. To meet these needs, we partner with trained local volunteers to provide sustainable, community-led solutions.
Initiatives In Action
In Indonesia, volunteers build water storage tanks and sanitation units that reduce illness and create opportunities to share the message of our Living Water. In refugee camps across Kenya and Ethiopia, South Sudanese volunteers teach essential hygiene and sanitation practices while offering gospel-centered encouragement. In Malawi, local teams lead workshops that empower families to build toilets and pit latrine covers, preventing disease and strengthening hope. And in Nigeria, dedicated volunteers are improving health through basic medical care, hygiene education, and Christ’s love in action.
