Gen Z and Giving: The Most Generous Generation Yet?

When you think about charitable giving, you might picture older generations writing checks to their favorite nonprofits. But something surprising is happening—Gen Z is redefining generosity, and they’re doing it in ways that could change the future of giving forever.

How Does Gen Z Compare to Other Generations?

Studies show that Gen Z (born 1997-2012) is more passionate about giving than any previous generation. According to a report by Blackbaud, 84% of Gen Zers report that they support nonprofit organizations, charities, or causes in some way. Even though they’re still early in their careers, many of them prioritize generosity—just in different ways than their parents or grandparents.

🔹 Baby Boomers (1946-1964) – Traditionally donate larger sums to established charities.

🔹 Gen X (1965-1980) – Give consistently but prefers hands-on involvement with causes.

🔹 Millennials (1981-1996) – Love monthly giving and expect transparency.

🔹 Gen Z (1997-2012) – More likely to give through social media, fundraise, and advocate for causes they believe in.

Even though Gen Z may not be the wealthiest generation (yet), they make up for it with action.

Why Gen Z’s Approach to Giving is Hopeful

The future of generosity is bright—and here’s why Gen Z is leading the charge:

🌍 They Care Deeply About Global Issues

Gen Z doesn’t just donate; they align their lifestyle with their values. Whether it’s clean water, disability care, or helping foster families, they want to make a difference.

📱 They Give Differently

Forget traditional checkbooks—Gen Z uses Venmo, Cash App, and online fundraisers to support causes instantly. Social media is their giving platform, and peer-to-peer fundraising is on the rise.

🤝 They Value Community Giving

Gen Z sees generosity as a movement, not a transaction. They want to volunteer, spread awareness, and inspire their friends to give too.

💡 They’re Building a Culture of Generosity

Unlike past generations who saw giving as an individual responsibility, Gen Z believes in collective action. They’re using technology and social influence to mobilize people for good. Notably in 2022, Gen Z donors made an average of 5.3 donations per donor, surpassing Millennials (4.8) and Gen X (4.7).

The Future of Giving is in Good Hands

It’s easy to assume younger generations aren’t giving as much because they’re still building financial stability. But the truth is, Gen Z is proving that generosity isn’t about how much money you have—it’s about how much you care.

And they care a lot.

As they grow in their careers and earnings, their giving will only increase. That means more lives changed, more communities strengthened, and more opportunities to share the gospel.

Want to Be Part of The Kingdom Workers Movement?

You don’t have to be Gen Z to embrace their passion for generosity. Here’s how you can get involved:

🙌 Start a fundraiser – Rally your friends around a cause you love.

💙 Join a monthly giving community – Be part of something bigger.

🙏 Pray for young people using their influence for good.

Thank You for the young people using their gifts to serve others. Bless their generosity, strengthen their faith, and guide them to use their influence for good. Help them trust in Your provision and find joy in giving. May their actions reflect Christ’s love and bring glory to You

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The next generation of giving is here, and it’s full of hope.
