How Lutheran High Schools Are Shaping the Next Generation of Servant Leaders

When people search for Lutheran high schools, they’re often looking for more than just academics—they’re searching for a place where faith and values are woven into everyday life. At Kingdom Workers, we’ve been blessed to partner with Lutheran high schools across the country, providing students with hands-on opportunities to serve others while growing in their faith.

From building projects to disability ministry to supporting foster families, these students are putting their faith into action in powerful ways.

Building Faith and Skills Through Construction

The Build Up program connects students with skilled mentors who teach them construction and trade skills while incorporating faith-based leadership. Through this program, Lutheran high school students have helped repair homes, renovate group homes, and construct projects that directly serve their communities. But more than just learning a trade, these students are discovering how to use their gifts to serve others, echoing Colossians 3:23:

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.”

Students from Kingdom Prep Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, WI repaired the home of a widow, while students from Arizona Lutheran Academy in Phoenix, AZ helped with building projects at an assisted living facility.

Bringing Joy to People with Disabilities

Many Lutheran high school students have also taken the lead in hosting disability ministry events, creating spaces where people with disabilities are not only included but celebrated. These events—whether it’s a night of games, a worship service, or simply spending time together—remind us all of the beauty of community and God’s love for every person.

These students aren’t just volunteering; they’re forming genuine friendships and learning to see the image of Christ in everyone they meet. They’re fully grasping Psalm 139:13-14,

“For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.”

Providing Support for Foster Families

Another powerful way Lutheran high school students are serving is by preparing meals for foster families. The journey of fostering can be overwhelming, and something as simple as a warm, homemade meal can make a world of difference. Through these acts of service, students are reflecting the love and care that God calls us to show to the most vulnerable among us.

Students from Wisconsin Lutheran High School in Milwaukee, WI made meals during their home economics class to give to foster families in the neighborhood.

A Legacy of Service and Faith

For years, Kingdom Workers has worked alongside Lutheran high schools to create meaningful service opportunities. Whether through construction, disability ministry, or supporting families, these students are living out their faith in real, tangible ways. They are learning that Christian education isn’t just about what happens in the classroom—it’s about how we carry Christ’s love into the world.

And that’s exactly what they’re doing.
