Bridging the Generational Gap in Construction

For decades, Builders For Christ volunteers have used their construction skills to bless churches and schools here in the United States and abroad. Meanwhile, our Build Up: Mentoring Teens in Trades program is only a few months old. Teens in this program have little to no construction knowledge and want to establish a better life for themselves.

As Builders For Christ (BFC) volunteers help Build Up program participants gain valuable construction skills, participants from Build Up will in turn be able to help with BFC projects. While something like this might sound idealistic, I’ve seen that it’s possible.

Fostering: The Transient Mission Field

As a college student, time is a precious resource. When you’re not in class, your day can quickly be consumed by homework, a job, exercise, eating, and (if you’re lucky) getting the highly-recommended-but-ever-so-elusive eight hours of sleep. Oftentimes, as college students, when you manage to carve out some free time, the first thought is what can I do for myself?

But Charissa asked a different question.

From the Ground Up: Building Christian Community

It was a cool summer afternoon when I first met Laura, Kevin, and Michelle. We sat in a spaced-out circle on Laura’s porch. A gentle breeze carried with it a sprinkling of sawdust from the project site just to my left. “A special construction blessing,” Principal Kevin Festerling said with a smile as he brushed the sawdust off his shirt.

And that’s exactly what this project was—a blessing. A blessing for Laura, Kevin, the students at Kingdom Prep, the volunteers from Kingdom Workers, and an entire neighborhood. And it all began with Laura’s husband Matt.

The link between an identity in Christ and a healthier life

As coordinator of the Health and Wellness Program for Kingdom Workers, I am often asked,

"How does your program connect people with Jesus?"

The truth is that health and gospel proclamation go hand-in-hand. In this post I'll be sharing how our program in Chile connects health and identity with sharing the gospel message, and how you can do the same in your own life.

3 ways to help kids in foster care

Someone once said, "You will know you've found your calling from God if the cause you are working for brings you to tears." I have found this to be very true in my life, and that is why my family has become involved in foster care. Every time I think about kids who are hurting, neglected, or abused, it brings me to tears, and I feel compelled to do something to help. I feel moved to be part of the solution.
